Chapter 8

E1027 Table by Eileen Gray
Eileen Gray was an Irish furniture designer and architect born in 1878 who was a leading member of the Modern Movement. In 1898 she attended the Slade School of Fine Art in London where she studied panting and in 1900 visited Paris, eventually moving there. Gray was mainly influenced by an exhibition of Art Nouveau pieces, called Exposition Universelle, while she was in Paris for the first time. In 1924 she began to work with Jean Badovici designing a vacation home in Southern France called E-1027.
E-1027 Side Table
One of the pieces that Gray designed was a beautiful side table. Found in the home next to a bed, this table is adjustable to accommodate any space. It can also be used harmoniously next to a couch or a chair. The table is made of chromed tubular steel and a .25 inch think glass. The width of and length is 20 inches and the height ranges from 24 to 40 inches. This piece now stays with a collection of MoMA in New York.

I thought the design of this table was not only practical, but sleek. The side table can be used just as that, to the side, of due to the gap in the center can be dragged over a seat to use. Its design is very sleek and simple, yet it still catches your eye.
