TED

TED

TED, or Technology Entertainment and Design, is a global conference formed to share ideas with the world, as their slogan would suggest. Founded in 1984 by Richard Saul Wurman, the goal of the conferences is to bring people together on three main ideas: Technology, Entertainment, and Design. Held annually, TED brings speakers from all over to world, famous or semi-famous, to share their love for those three worlds. Not only do these amazing speakers come and shed their knowledge and talent on us, but TED also awards an individual the TED prize, a winning of $100,000 and "One Wish to Change the World." According to WebDesignerDepot.com, "The 'One Wish' is designed to leverage the TED community’s resources and talent to create projects with far-reaching impact. Previous winners have included Jamie Oliver, Dave Eggers, Bill Clinton, and Bono, among others."

The conference itself spans over four days and includes 50 speakers, each with an 18-minute slot, along with shorter slots for other pieces of content, including music, performance, and comedy. It seems to be such an amazing conference to be able to attend (if you can manage to get your hands on a ticket!) and one that everyone shares together.  TED describes their conferences flawlessly, "There are no breakout groups. Everyone shares the same experience. It shouldn’t work, but it does. It works because all of knowledge is connected. Every so often it makes sense to emerge from the trenches we dig for a living, and ascend to a 30,000-foot view, where we see, to our astonishment, an intricately interconnected whole."

One of my favorite things to do is to go on to the TED website and view their videos from their conferences. I can always count on being utterly mesmerized by the speakers and their thoughts. Because of the countless number of videos that emerges on their site however, I would like to share only two that are quite extraordinary.
