Six Works by Yulia Brodskaya
Yulia Brodskaya is an artist known well for her paper art. Yulia was born in Moscow, Russia, but moved to the UK in 2004.  Although she had interest in different mediums before moving, after her arrival she became a freelance designer while studying in 2006 for her masters degree in Graphics Communication, eventually switching to illustration.  Although Yulia loves Graphic Design, she states, "Typography is my second love, after paper and I’m really happy that I’ve found a way of combining the two. Having said that, I don’t want to exclude non-typobased designs, I’d like to work on different projects."

Yulia uses a technique called "Quilling" in which she uses curled paper in order to create a design.  Her designs in this field are so unique, that she quickly gained a reputation around the world and in 2009 was named the breakthrough star by Creative Review Magazine. Yulia has worked with many top companies, and in doing soon has promoted the reuse of quilling into the art world.

Yulia's work is beautiful; showing intricate designs that portray pictures, all while using paper.  She has an amazing sense of understanding how to manipulate paper into designs that look fragile, yet flawless.  After researching more about her for my blog, I came across her website.  It contains what Yulia calls "PAPERgraphic" but it also had a section called "Art."  I clicked on the section and found an elaborate design of an elderly woman, using just paper.  It really goes to show that sticking to what you believe in and where your heart is can sometimes be just the exact thing you need.
